Abstract

Highlyefficient,robustandmesoporoussulfatedzirconia,SZcatalystswerepreparedbyco-precipitationandincipient-wetnessrouteswithsufficientandin-excessacid.ThestudyinvestigatedtheeffectofpH,precur-sortype,andconcentration,onSZandcomparedtheiracidityandperformancewithytterbium-dopedSZtowardtransesterification.N2sorption,elementalanalysis,XRD,andammoniatemperature-programmeddesorption(NH3-TPD)revealedthepropertiesofthecatalyticmaterials.ThespecificsurfaceareaincreasesindependentlyofthepresenceofTiupto60.33m2/g,withincreasingpHwhileporesizeofthetetrago-nalcrystallitesdecreasesfrom37.04to6.83nm.Soakingthematerialinsufficient0.5-MH2SO4produced37.04nmSBETincontrastto21.21nmfromsoakinginexcess.Doublesulfationensuredsulfateincorporationwhilemoderateprecursoramountsenhancedactivityofthematerials.Interestingly,despitelowspecificsur-facearea,whichwasduetoshortagingperiod,largemesoporosity,highamount,anddispersionofactivesitesonYb-dopedSZ,SZr-Ti-Yb-500-4/sensuredremarkableactivity.Thecatalystconvertedca.99%ofusedfryingoilcontainingca.48wt.%FFA.Consequently,thishighlightstheprospectofproducingbiodieselatlowercostespeciallywithcurrentdwindlingpriceofcrudeo
