Abstract

Health Diplomacy has been perceived as the way forward in the containment of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and was considered to be a strong chord in the containment of COVID-19, by examining if there was any nexus between health diplomacy and COVID-19 containment with special emphasis on the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. To accomplish the research objectives, three propositions were formulated and verified. This study relied on the collective action theory as the theoretical framework of analysis. The study relied on secondary and primary sources of data collection. The data collected were analysed thematically based on the research questions and structured interview that guided the study. This study adopted case study research design which allowed an in-depth analysis and comprehension of the study. Interview schedules were utilised to gather information from the current 200 workers in the selected organization as part of the population of the study. While the sample for the interview included 16 directorates who were selected through systematic sampling technique. The result shows that despite all measures that have been embarked on by the NCDC, to prevent control and contain the current pandemic crisis, there is a stronger need for evaluating and re-engineering short and long-term strategies. It was discovered that there is a connection between Health Diplomacy and COVID-19 pandemic. The study recommends that Nigeria will need to pay very close attention to enforcing the steps to contain the spread of the disease and by suggesting strategies to scale up the Nigeria health sector.
