Abstract

The uv/visible spectra of 9-xanthenthione and 9 -Xanthenone were determined in various solvents ( both polar and non-polar). The wave number of transition energies , corresponding molar absorptivities and oscillator strengths were reported. The electronic transitions are assigned based on the observed effect of solvents on the absorption bands.
