Abstract

Growing environmental issues which can no longer be termed minor have now grown to be major, calling for urgent attention. This has thus necessitated an emerging form of diplomacy known as environmental diplomacy. This research examined Nigeria’s environmental Diplomacy, and Nigeria’s Image in the International Arena (2010-2020). To achieve the research objectives, three propositions were formulated; the research adopted the green theory. The case study research method was used and in-depth interview was carried out. The data collected was analyzed thematically. The findings showed that Nigeria has been active and this is evident in the fact that Nigeria is signatory to environment related treaties and is engaged in conferences and negotiations. It confirms the proposition that Nigeria has significantly contributed to environmental diplomacy under the year in review. However, it was discovered that there are still limiting factors that hinder environmental efforts. The study also shows that at regional and extensively, international level, Nigeria’s level of engagement is commendable. The research findings did prove that whether active or not, there is indeed a perception. The work concluded by recommending that a proper policy monitoring should be done, there should be an increase in awareness in order to boost citizen participation
