Abstract

Identifying originality of project, dissertation and thesis contents has been on the front burner of institutions globally. The Nigeria case is not different because all institutions are working hard at curbing academic dishonesty at all levels. The National Universities Commission (NUC), the licensing and regulatory body charged as a commission to promote quality higher education in Nigeria has current statistics of Nigeria Universities totaled at 174 with 43-, 52- and 79-Universities for Federal, State and Private, respectively. Each institution is guided by a code of conduct as provided in the license given by the Commission. Matters that border on academic integrity for report of project work, dissertations, theses and manuscripts prepared for journal publication are taken with utmost sense of seriousness. Most institutions have developed the idea of ensuring that any documents submitted for the award of grade or merit should go through an originality check. The major challenge is connected with the parameters for this check. This presentation is therefore intended as a guide to ensure that documents emanating as research output from our institutions attain a credible level of academic integrity.
