Kitchens are crucial functional spaces in homes. They have been designed and built based on requirements that are foreign but universal for many years. The uniqueness of the Nigerian context, requirements and culture is lacking in the design decision making process. Therefore, the study seeks to examine unique kitchen design considerations and user satisfaction for kitchens in Nigerian houses. Survey research approach was adopted. A response rate of 100% of the sampled 50 housing units within the 120 units of the Woji new layout, of Port Harcourt City was achieved. The data gathered were subjected to analysis and presented using mainly descriptive statistics. The result of the analysis of data surprisingly shows that respondents are satisfied with the size, location, fixtures and arrangement in the kitchen. The study concludes by recommending the inclusion of outdoor kitchen area/terrace, kitchen garden and that a kitchen should be designed as interactive space that can cater for the socio-functional needs of the users. The need for the kitchen to be well ventilated naturally was also revealed as a major consideration in the design and construction of kitchens in Nigeria. Keywords: Culture, Considerations, Design, Garden, Satisfaction.
