Abstract

The defining features from the beginning of 20th century to the early 21" century include numerous armed conflicts, authoritarian regimes, and genocidal episodes, and the last quarter of the 20th century ushers in a significant increase in attention to women's rights and protagonism in the context of political violence and terrorism. These negative developments necessitated research and policy initiatives on conflict prevention, resolution, and reconstruction activities that recently focus on gender dimensions to conflict, with a view to incorporating their concerns to policy and academic settings, in order to better understand and respond to the impact conflict has on men and women
