Abstract
·. ln our big cities.and rural ~1rcas, there arc many ngro--waste materials found :littered about. These cause an euvlronm~~;mt·:tl nuisance .and mar the beauty of our l;~nds<.'aiH.'S. This worl< was mHierUd<cn to determine tile engineering properties of the ag~·o-wastc materials, especially their thermal condndivity, iu order to be able to utilize these materials in construction and manufacturing industries. Lee's disc <lpparatus was used to conduct the experiments. The following results were obtained for· the thermal cundudivity (Wm·' K"1 ) of such ~tgro-waste materials, coconut shell, 0.0680, cow dung, 0.1587, sponge gourd fibre, 0.1604, gnnmdnut shell, 0.1604, palm ken1cl shell 0.1630, maize cob, 0.1647 mango seed shell, 0.1656, bean shell 0.1683 and rkc husk , 0.1692. the effectiveness of the lice's disc apparatus was confirmed, by using it on matcd~ds whose thermal conductivity values ar·e known. Thermal conductivity values obL~incd for the agrn-wastc materials show that they can be used as insulators in buiiding, aml preservation of agricultural products.
