Abstract
Energy in the form of electricity is used in achieving indoor thermal comfort in buildings in Nigeria. The rising cost of energy and its epileptic nature of supply have necessitated the need to explore other sources of energy which promise to be more sustainable. It is in the light of this that this paper investigated the features of houses in the hot-dry climatic zone of Nigeria which have been traditionally used to reduce energy consumption in buildings. These were found to include the use of thick mud walls, courtyards and colour amongst others.
