These two goals could be conflicting objectives if they are required simultaneously. Spatial multiplexing enhances the reliability of a wireless network while spatial multiplexing increases the data throughput of the network. In this paper, the first in a series of three on MIMO, an introduction to MIMO is done with mathematically analysis and spatial diversity of MIMO is looked into. This is followed by Mathlab simulations that shows the improvement made on the use of MIMO
