Abstract
This research is aimed at evaluating the quality management practices of building construction firm in Oyo State. To achieve the set objectives a well structured questionnaire with selected Likert scale to obtain the respondents perception on the objective was administered personally to the professionals in the construction industry in Ibadan Oyo state. The data collected were analysed using frequency and distribution statistical tools. The result of the analysis showed that Lack of adequate sanction by the standard assurance organization, Non implementation of National Building Code, Lack of proper inspection at every construction stages, Award of contract to unqualified contractor and Lack of construction quality control inspection programme were among the topmost factors influencing project quality in construction industry in Oyo State. lack of adequate monitoring team, lack of fund, lack of adequate testing equipment, non involvement of relevant professionals, lack of adequate personnel for quality control test and lack of adequate budgetary were problems associated with quality management implementation on construction projects Effect of quality management was seen on client satisfaction, getting more jobs as a result of previous good work done, reduction on maintenance cost In conclusion the research established that Lack of adequate sanction by the standard assurance organization, Non implementation of National Building Code, Lack of proper inspection at every construction stages, Award of contract to unqualified contractor, Lack of construction quality control inspection programme, Lack of effective quality policy implementation, Inadequate personnel and craftsmen training, Poor specification, were the factors influencing project quality in construction industry both in public and private organization in Oyo State. It recommends that adequate sanction should be impose on the non compliance of quality by the standard assurance organization, Legislative arm of government should endeavor to pass National Building Code into law, Proper inspection should be done at every construction stages so as to ensure adequate quality.
