Abstract

The study examined Non-Governmental Organizations and Actualization of The Sustainable Development Goals (S.D.Gs) In Nigeria: A Study Of Leap Africa. This study was guided by the following objectives; to Provide proof that NGOs such as LEAP Africa stand a better chance of spearheading the leadership in actualizing the SDGs within the stipulated time frame for 2030; provide the road map for actualizing the SDGs in a way that will affect the grassroots nationally without leaving anyone behind and to analyze the possibility of an impending synergy to make the SDGs achievement feasible. Research questions were derived from the objectives of the study. Modernization Theory, World Systems Theory, and Globalization Theory were used in substantiate variables of the topic. The study used the qualitative research method as in-depth interviews were conducted on the selected staff of LEAP Africa and 2 other prominent N.G.Os. The study findings revealed that it is possible for NGOs including LEAP Africa in Africa to provide the leadership needed in actualizing SDGs within the stipulated time frame of 2030 but it is important for it to be a concerted effort so that no NGO is operating in isolation. It was therefore among others recommended that policymakers in Nigeria should ensure that the new SDGs strategy fits into the overall development framework of the present administration without threatening or conflicting with the institutional structures and mandates of this larger agenda; the SDGs should be made consistent with Nigeria’s domestic political agenda and priorities; the present governments in Nigeria should significantly strengthen the political will and institutions necessary for the successful implementation of the SDGs in the country.
