Abstract
This study examined the implementation of sustainable development goal 13, which demands active participation in tackling the menace of climate change. This study addressed the difficulties encountered during the implementation of climate action in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State. It looks at the impacts of climate action on sustainable development in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. The study also spotlights on the vulnerability of coastal communities like Eti-Osa and the strategies of the Lagos state government to mitigate problems associated with climate change. This study adopted the Ecological Modernization theory, establishing institutional and regulatory impacts on achieving climate action. The study adopted both qualitative and quantitative method of data collection to assess the impact of climate adaptation, climate mitigation and climate resilient strategies within the local government. The study used linear regression to test the effect of climate adaptation, climate mitigation and climate resilience on sustainable development. Structured interviews were also utilized to gain relevant information from climate experts and residents in the local government. The findings revealed that domestication of SDG 13 has not been fully implemented in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. However, there are local plans by the government and non-governmental agencies on climate action within the local government. Therefore, the study recommends strengthening institutional coordination and collaboration among key government agencies, local governments, community-based groups, and other stakeholders in addressing climate-based challenges.
