Abstract
The authors contribute to the debate on democracy and accountability in Africa by examining the nexus between democracy and accountability. They argue that whereas democracy engendered accountability in pre-colonial . Africa, modern democracy in Africa fails to bring accountability to the front burner of politics, which is attributed to colonial rule that led to the destruction of indigenous system cum the attitudes of postcolonial leaders. Given this scenario, the authors contend that accountability, which was the hall mark of pre-colonial Africa, should be imbibed by contemporary leaders of Africa. Africans should be sensitised to making their leaders answerable for their actions.
