Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to highlight the policy and management issues in contemporary Nigerian education system. Through rigorous intellectual analysis of the major segments of the Nigerian education system comprising pre-primary, primary/basic education, secondary education and tertiary education, it was observed that government‟s efforts and gestures (on education) are foundational and would require further work and consolidation in order to achieve better results. The paper is made up of: abstract, introduction; clarification of concepts and discourse on policy and management issues in the Nigerian education system. The paper recommended among others that the federal ministry of education should strive to play appropriate warehousing roles in policy leadership, and the need to upgrade facilities for teaching and research, cannot be over emphasized.
