Abstract
Although professional input is essential in the design of buildings, such services are rarely available to rural dwellers. Reasons include ignorance and inability to procure such services. This paper highlights the various considerations that need to be made in order to achieve a house design that meets the basic requirements of thermal comfort, affordability, durability and technical soundness.
