Abstract

Being a good architect necessitates a harmonious, productive relationship with other professionals in the construction industry. This is necessary to achieve a common goal. The process of developing this relationship needs to begin from the training of the architect. This field of study has been described in literature as interdisciplinary education. The aim of the study reported in this paper is to investigate the degree of interdisciplinary education that exists in the training of the architects and how this influences the development of employability skills in the students. For this purpose, a survey was carried out, taking a sample from architecture department in a University in Nigeria. The survey instrument was a structured questionnaire. The results of the study suggest low level of interdisciplinary education in the field of architecture. The skills that were statistically influenced by the level of interdisciplinary education were identified. Implications for research, practice and education are discussed
