Abstract
Entrepreneurship's contribution to economic growth and social progress has long been acknowledged. Aside from Nigeria, numerous countries in the world are regularly working towards achieving progress and development. Hence, this study examined social entrepreneurship and poverty alleviation for sustainable development in Nigeria. The research work focused primarily on championing economic, social and environmental upliftment, and making better the quality of people’s lives. No amount of emphasis can be placed on the difficulties that social entrepreneurship faces or the impact it has on reducing poverty for sustainable development. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, three hypotheses were formulated from the research questions raised to guide the study. Progressive Social Theory and Individual Deficiency Theory were used to explain the issues raised in the research question. The purposive sampling technique was employed in this study. Three hundred copies of structured questionnaire were administered to selected cooperative Society, non-governmental organizations and microfinance bank of which 262 copies were retrieved and used for the analysis. Structural and measurement models were utilized for data analysis, PLS-SEM was used to analyze the path of the distribution. Bootstrapping was used to determine the significance level. The results from the test of hypotheses showed that; Social innovation influenced Self-employment drive (r= 0.310 R2=0.096, p= 0.000 <0.05); Social value has a significantly and positively influence self-reliance (r= 0.470 R2=0.221, p= 0.000 <0.05) and social impact has a significant, positive and strong impact on productivity (r= 0.696 R2= 0.484 p=0.000 <0.05). It was recommended that non-governmental organizations, cooperative society, microfinance banks, and other social entrepreneurs focus on optimising social impact and ensuring that people get empowered to reduce poverty and economic hardship of vulnerable individuals.
