Abstract
Two novel methods of designing distillation column for binary mixtures are presented with the assumption of a constant relative volatility. The analytical method presents a simple expression from which the actual number of theoretical plates can be calculated. These methods that incorporate the murphree efficiency eliminate the assumption of linearity of the operating curve equations, thus providing us the actual number of theoretical plates as against the ideal number of theoretical plates obtained from some traditional methods.
